Draft Site Allocations and Policies (incorporating IP-One Area Action Plan) Development Plan Document

Site Ref: IP037 (UC038) Island Site

Representation ID: 136

Received: 06/03/2014

Respondent: Cycle Ipswich

Representation Summary:

This area would be ideal for a right of way for walking and cycling to cross the docks and river, please can this be added as part of the planning requirements? It should not be opened as a motor through route, otherwise there will be far more motor traffic than could be coped with currently never mind when housing is build on this land.

Site Ref: IP039a (UC040 part) Land between Gower Street & Great Whip Street

Representation ID: 138

Received: 06/03/2014

Respondent: Cycle Ipswich

Representation Summary:

Anything that is built here should have something that aids improving the National Cycle Route 1 that runs past the site, and will allow significantly increased cycle traffic flows from Shotley along here, over Stoke Bridge and into the Town Centre. Ideally Section 106 money from this or nearby developments should be used to convert a motor vehicle lane on Stoke Bridge to cycle use so that Stoke Bridge can cope with the increased traffic flows without pedestrians and cyclists being in conflict. Any plans which make conditions worse for cyclists and walkers should be avoided.

Draft Site Allocations and Policies (incorporating IP-One Area Action Plan) Development Plan Document

Site Ref: IP080 (UC085) 240 Wherstead Road

Representation ID: 140

Received: 06/03/2014

Respondent: Cycle Ipswich

Representation Summary:

The local cycle campaign Cycle Ipswich are looking to have a link through this site to the housing behind for cycling and walking as an alternative to using the Wherstead Road. Having a link through this site running behind the houses on Wherstead Road could have the potential to significantly increase cycling along this corridor.

There is also potential for having a new pedestrian and cycle tunnel under the railway here to make this journey more convenient than the current tunnel.

Site Ref: IP140a (UC257) Land North of Whitton Lane

Representation ID: 141

Received: 06/03/2014

Respondent: Cycle Ipswich

Representation Summary:

I very much approve of measures to prevent more motor vehicles coming into the town centre and encouraging people to leave their cars at the edge of town to come in.

Could facilities be built or publicity to promote park and cycle, which avoids having to have huge increases in the bus capacity?

Much work is needed to ensure improved cycling facilities, which are not legalised pavement cycling, or placing cyclists with motor vehicles, so that there aren't huge increases in motor traffic caused by this development.

Site Ref: IP147 (UC264) Land between railway junction and Hadleigh Road

Representation ID: 144

Received: 06/03/2014

Respondent: Cycle Ipswich

Representation Summary:

There should be a cycle and walking link through this land, under the Ipswich Chord railway line, over the river and on to the cycle path on the other side of the river. This would be an extremely useful link to implement to encourage walking and cycling into the town centre from this site and the nearby area. This would also link into the National Cycle Route 51.
