The most robust way this Plan could fulfil its potential in respect of health outcomes would be to undertake a formal Health Impact Assessment, separately, if this is not possible, through enhanced analysis of health issues through the Sustainability Appraisal.

Design plays a significant role in promoting healthy built environments. It is hoped that the forthcoming countywide design guidance will provide a strong framework for detailed consideration of health as a design issue. The Borough Council should consider whether the Plan provides a strong policy hook for requiring the implementation of the health recommendations of the Design Guidance.
