Received: 27/03/2014

Respondent: Suffolk County Council

Legally compliant? Not specified

Duty to co-operate? Not specified

Representation Summary:

Much of this site is Scheduled Monument, which represents a large portion of the Anglo-Saxon and medieval town. There would be extremely high archaeological costs associated with development, which would require full assessment prior to granting permission. Excavations in parts of the site have revealed evidence for occupation from the Middle Saxon period onwards. The rest is undisturbed and anticipated to contain rich and well-preserved archaeological remains. English Heritage consent is needed for development on Scheduled sites. Should development be acceptable in principle, archaeological remains will be complex, important and involve significant costs. Archaeological management would be a major consideration.

English Heritage consent is needed for any development on Scheduled sites. Where development is accepted in principle, archaeological remains will be complex, important and involve significant costs.
