This area includes much of the internationally important area of the Anglo-Saxon and Medieval town and waterfront, including Scheduled monuments and will involve considerable commitment of resources to archaeology. Sites which include Scheduled Monuments and are likely to involve high archaeological costs: IP054, IP011b. Sites likely to involve high archaeological costs: IP052, IP043, IP132, IP035. Sites with outstanding archaeological obligations: IP206 Cranfield's Wharf has been subject to large scale excavation but post-excavation work was stalled by the development situation. There is still an outstanding obligation for assessment, conservation, analysis and publication, particularly of waterlogged wooden structures from the Anglo-Saxon quayside.
